South African Master of Ocean Sciences (SAMOS) – 2026 Applications Now Open

Are you passionate about Ocean Sciences and ready to take your career to the next level? The flagship intake for the Applied Ocean Sciences (AOS) Master’s degree, part of the South African Master of Ocean Sciences (SAMOS) programme, is now open for applications.About the Program:

• Duration: Two-year Master’s degree

• Structure: Coursework and a minor dissertation

• Focus: Preparing students for careers in the blue bio-economy, marine research, and conservation of South Africa’s coastal and offshore ecosystems

• Degree Awarded By: University of Cape Town (UCT)

• Coursework Location: Nelson Mandela University’s Ocean Sciences Campus in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape

• Research Year: Conducted at one of nine participating South African universities

The AOS-SAMOS program is a collaborative initiative between nine South African universities, the National Research Foundation (NRF), and five European partners, supported by the EU ERASMUS+ CBHE (2025–2028). This pilot course will commence in February 2026.
