The Journalism Programme in the Department of Media, Language and Communication at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) is now inviting applications for the Bachelor of Journalism Honours programme starting in 2026.

Programme Structure

The Bachelor of Journalism Honours includes the following modules:

  • Multi-Media and Society 401

  • Multi-Media and Journalism 401

  • Media Management 401

  • Research Methodology 401

  • Research Project 401

  • Specialist Journalism 401

Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Journalism or an equivalent NQF7 qualification in media or communication.

Application Requirements

Your application must include:

  1. Formal letter of application (motivational letter)

  2. Curriculum Vitae

  3. Portfolio of journalism/media work

  4. Result sheet(s) from your Bachelor of Journalism or equivalent qualification

  5. Academic transcript

  6. Certified copy of ID

  7. Relevant certificates

  8. Proof of payment for the required application fee

Important Dates

  • Application deadline: 1 November 2025

  • Submission platform: PEOPLE’s SOFT

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Route

Applicants without the formal qualification may apply via the RPL route.

  • Deadline for RPL applications: 1 September 2025

  • Deadline for full RPL route application: 15 September 2025 (only successful candidates will be contacted)

Registration for 2026

The registration fee for 2026 will be announced towards the end of 2025 and must be paid before or on registration in January 2026.
