The University of Venda (Univen) was established in 1982 in Thohoyandou, Limpopo. Originally founded to serve the Venda homeland during apartheid, the university has since transformed into a comprehensive institution that attracts students from across South Africa and beyond.
With more than 15,000 students, Univen plays a crucial role in providing higher education in the northernmost part of South Africa. It offers a wide range of programmes in science, engineering, health, law, education, management, and agriculture, with a strong focus on rural development and community-based learning.
Univen is unique in that it is a single-campus university, but its campus is large and fully integrated, providing academic, residential, cultural, and sporting facilities in one setting.
