Sasol offers comprehensive bursaries to exceptional South African students pursuing full-time undergraduate and postgraduate studies in science, engineering, and technology. The bursaries cover tuition, accommodation, allowances, and additional academic support.
1. Sasol Mainstream Bursary Programme
For undergraduate studies (B.Sc. / B.Eng. / B.Eng. Tech)
This bursary targets high-achieving students interested in pursuing full-time studies in core engineering and science disciplines.
Fields of Study

Engineering: Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Mining

Sciences: Chemistry, Geology (up to Hons), Physics

Data Science Specialisations: Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science

Mine Surveying (B.Eng. Tech – UoT only)

Minimum academic results:

70%+ in Mathematics and Physical Science (not Technical Maths)

60–69% in English depending on Home/Additional Language

Full-time studies only at public South African universities (UNISA excluded)

2. Sasol Postgraduate Bursary Programme
For M.Sc., M.Eng., and Ph.D. students
Focus is on supporting postgraduate research aligned with Sasol’s energy transition and sustainability goals.
Key Focus Areas

Chemical Engineering: Process, Reactor, Thermodynamics, Separation Tech

Chemistry: Analytical, Catalysis, Polymer Science, Environmental Chemistry

Data Science: Applied Mathematics, Statistics

Cyber Security
Applicants should be able to propose a topic of interest (no formal project required initially) and will work with Sasol experts to finalise proposals.
3. Sasol Mining Fenceline Bursary Programme
For students from specific fenceline communities in Mpumalanga, Free State, and Gauteng
Eligible disciplines include:

Electrical, Electronic, Geology, Industrial, Mechanical, and Mining Engineering

Mine Surveying (University of Johannesburg only)
Applicants must reside permanently in designated municipalities and provide proof of address. Age limit: below 30 years. Preference is given to academically strong and financially needy candidates.
4. Sasol Foundation Bursary Programme (STEM & Non-STEM)
Currently closed for 2026
Covers full-time undergraduate degrees in:

STEM Fields: Engineering, IT, Data Science, Environmental, Medical, Agriculture

Non-STEM Fields: Only for children of Sasol employees, Khanyisa shareholders, or fence-line communities

5. Sasol Energy Green Hydrogen Bursary (Northern Cape)
Next intake to be confirmed
For students from Namaqua and Richtersveld districts, aligned with Sasol’s green hydrogen project. Prioritises degrees in Engineering, Science, Technology, and Finance.
