How to Apply to the University of Pretoria for 2026

1. Prepare Your Documents

Before starting your application, ensure you have the following documents ready:

  • Certified copy of your South African ID or passport.

  • Final Grade 11 results (if applying before receiving your matric results).

  • Matric certificate (if available).

  • Proof of payment for the application fee.

  • Proof of income (if applying for an application fee waiver).

2. Apply Online

  • Visit the UP online application portal: UP Application Portal.

  • Complete the application form, providing accurate personal and academic information.

  • Upload the required documents as specified above.

  • Indicate your residence preferences during the application process.

3. Pay the Application Fee

  • The application fee is R300 for South African citizens and $30 USD for international applicants.

  • Fee Waiver: South African applicants whose household income is R150,000 or less per year may qualify for a fee waiver.

  • Payment can be made via:

    • Credit Card: During the online application process.

    • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or Bank Deposit: Use the following bank details:

      • Bank: ABSA or Standard Bank

      • Branch Code: 632005

      • Account Number: 2140000054

      • Reference: Use your temporary application number (e.g., T1234567).

  • Retain proof of payment and upload it during the application process.

4. Submit Your Application

  • Review all information and documents before submitting.

  • Once submitted, you will receive a student number (EMPLID) via email.

  • Use this number for all future correspondence and to track your application status.

5. Monitor Your Application Status

  • Regularly check your email and the UP Student Portal for updates.

  • If admitted to multiple programs, accept your preferred program and decline others on the portal.

  • Submit the required registration contract and pay initial fees to confirm your admission.

6. Final Admission

  • Final admission is based on your matric results.

  • Confirm your final admission status on the UP Student Portal.

  • Failure to confirm may result in your admission being revoked.

Important Dates

  • Applications Open: 1 April 2025

  • Applications Close:

    • Veterinary Science: 31 May 2025

    • All other undergraduate programs: 30 June 2025

  • Final Document Submission: 31 August 2025
