Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is a public university located in Kimberley in the Northern Cape, South Africa. Established to expand access to higher education in the region, SPU offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with an emphasis on applied research, community engagement and skills development relevant to the Northern Cape and South Africa.

History

Sol Plaatje University was established by the South African government as a public university to address regional skills shortages and expand higher education access in the Northern Cape. The institution is named after Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje (1876–1932), a prominent South African intellectual, writer and political activist who was born in the Kimberley area. SPU began operations in the mid-2010s, building a campus in Kimberley and developing teaching programmes and community-focused research relevant to local economic and social needs.

All application dates
