Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) is a public university of technology based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, focused on career-oriented, technology-driven education, applied research and skills development for industry and communities.
History
Founded in 1979 by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi as Mangosuthu Technikon to provide technical and vocational higher education to the region, the institution has grown into a recognised university of technology. Over the decades MUT expanded academic programmes, facilities and community engagement initiatives and was designated a University of Technology in the early 2000s. It has played a significant role in skills development and access to higher education for historically disadvantaged communities in KwaZulu-Natal.
