About

CPUT

Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is South Africa's largest university of technology, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across applied sciences, engineering, business, health sciences, informatics and design. CPUT focuses on vocationally oriented, industry-relevant education, applied research and community engagement throughout the Western Cape.

History

CPUT was established in 2005 through the merger of the Cape Technikon and the Peninsula Technikon. Its constituent institutions trace their origins to a number of technical colleges and training institutions in the Western Cape dating back to the early and mid-20th century. The merger was part of a national restructuring of higher education in South Africa intended to broaden access, strengthen relevance and increase institutional capacity. Since 2005 CPUT has expanded its programme offerings, research capacity and community engagement while developing multiple campuses across the Western Cape.

Mission

To provide career-focused, quality higher education and applied research that responds to social and economic development needs, producing work-ready graduates and contributing to innovation and technology transfer in the region.

Vision

To be a leading African university of technology recognised for excellence in applied research, teaching and learning, and for producing innovative, employable graduates who contribute to sustainable development.
