Rhodes Scholarships for Southern Africa (2026 Applications Open)

The Rhodes Scholarships for Southern Africa are open to applicants from South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, and eSwatini. These scholarships are managed by a regional secretariat based in Johannesburg.

Available Scholarships:

  • 8 scholarships for applicants from South Africa-at-Large

  • 1 scholarship for an applicant from KwaZulu-Natal

  • 1 scholarship for an applicant from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, or eSwatini

Important Dates:

  • Opening Date: 1 June 2025

  • Closing Date: 23:59 SAST, 1 August 2025

Note on School Scholarships:
School Scholarships have been suspended for 2026 and until further notice. However, candidates eligible for school scholarships can apply through the regional committees for South Africa-at-Large, KwaZulu-Natal, or Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, and eSwatini (BLMNS) as appropriate.
