What started as a school performance in front of fellow learners at Bhekiswako High School has turned into an unexpected opportunity for Grade 11 learner Sphesihle Nonyane.

Sphesihle found himself at the centre of attention after gospel singer and musician Bishop Donny Ngwenyama visited his school and heard him sing. What followed was a moment of nerves, laughter, encouragement and ultimately an opportunity to perform on the Thandeka Gee Production (TGP) 2026 audition stage.

It started at Bhekiswako High School

Bishop Donny Ngwenyama visited Bhekiswako High School as part of preparations and engagement around an upcoming October event by Thandeka Gee Production.

During the visit, Sphesihle was given an opportunity to sing in front of the school.

The Grade 11 learner performed “Uzuliphathe Kahle Lelivangeli”, a well-known gospel song.

The moment did not go exactly as Sphesihle might have hoped.

As he sang, Donny laughed, while some of the learners around him also laughed at the performance. For a young learner singing in front of his school, the reaction could easily have been discouraging.

But instead of ending there, the moment became the beginning of something much bigger.

Donny told Sphesihle that he would sing with him. The interaction also appears to have opened the door for Sphesihle to take part in the TGP 2026 audition process.
