Advanced HIV & Adherence Counselling Short Course – 2025
The University of Cape Town’s HIV Mental Health Research Unit invites you to participate in the Advanced HIV & Adherence Counselling short course. This one-day, CPD-accredited training is designed to empower healthcare workers and support staff with evidence-based strategies to improve antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence.
Course Overview
This short course introduces Life Steps, a structured 13-step educational and problem-solving intervention. It is aimed at addressing both structural and psychological barriers to ART adherence. Through this method, participants will learn to help individuals set goals, navigate challenges, and build practical, personalized plans to sustain long-term adherence.
Near-perfect adherence is essential for the success of ART, yet many individuals living with HIV face ongoing obstacles. This training provides the skills and tools needed to make a real impact on adherence support.
